Title: Sustainable Design as Prerogative: New York and Boston-Two Approaches
Date: February 7, 2007
Description:

This discussion focused on two modes for sustainable design in commercial building-internally motivated and externally legislated. Boston has mandated sustainable design for all new development. New York has become a hot bed for sustainable design but has only legislated it for public sector work with each developer trying to top each other. Neal Glick, Partner and Chair of the Real Estate Group at Donovan Hatem, reviewed Boston's new building code that mandates sustainable design. Ken Lewis, an Associate Partner at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP and the Project Manager for World Trade Center Tower One, "the Freedom Tower," and 7 World Trade Center, discussed the sustainable design initiatives for 7 WTC. Additional insight into the discussion was provided by Scott Frank, a Partner with the firm of Jaros Baum & Bolles, who has been involved with several significant green projects, including 30 Hudson Street (Jersey City), One Bryant Park, Freedom Tower and 7 World Trade Center.
