Experience

Leslie P. King is a litigation associate in the Professional Practices Group at Donovan Hatem LLP.  Leslie is responsible for the defense of design professionals including architects, engineers and landscape architects in state, federal, and tribal courts.  Leslie also represents clients on general liability matters involving product liability claims, wrongful death and indemnity claims. Leslie also provides loss prevention and contract review and drafting services to clients.

Prior to joining the firm, Leslie worked in litigation at Jacobs, Grudberg, Belt, Dow and Katz, P.C. and Brenner Saltzman and Wallman, PC in Connecticut. During law school, Leslie clerked for a firm focused on eminent domain and land use law.

Yale School of Architecture, Guest Lecturer in Professional Practices Seminar on How Architects Can Avoid Five Common Legal Missteps (Spring 2012).

Panelist: “Statutes of Repose and the Doctrine of Nullum Tempus Occurrit Regi”  American Institute of Architects, Connecticut Chapter concerning the recent application of the ancient legal maxim “no time runs against the King” and its implications for design professionals, October 2008.

Panelist: “New Indemnification Language in State Contracts” American Institute of Architects, Connecticut Chapter and accompanying client alert in The Design and Construction Management Professional Reporter, December, 2009.  Concerned unfavorable and uninsurable language in the State of Connecticut’s Department of Public Works and municipal school contracts.

Representative Cases/Matters

Received full defense verdict as second chair in a trial on behalf of a land surveyor facing claims of professional liability allegedly worth over $6 million in damages. Successfully defended verdict on appeal.

Obtained summary judgment for a civil engineering firm in a $7 million-lawsuit alleging professional malpractice and unfair trade practices.

Obtained summary judgment of a lawsuit alleging fraud, unfair trade practices and negligence against an insurance investigation firm filed by a plaintiff homeowner. 

Obtained complete dismissal of claims against a landscape architectural firm after an evidentiary hearing regarding the plaintiff contractor’s failure to comply with a dispute resolution clause in the plaintiff’s agreement with the owner.

Successfully moved to strike indemnification count based on Connecticut's anti-indemnity statute in a lawsuit brought by major utility seeking millions for an underlying wrongful death case.
